Win by checkmating the opposing king or by becoming the first player to score three goals.
Board and Ball
Chess pieces move on the standard 8 by 8 board. The ball moves on the 9 by 9 intersection grid and begins at 5E.
A piece controls the ball when the ball touches one of that square's four corners.
Turn Sequence
- Make one legal chess move.
- If your side controls the ball, choose Dribble, Kick, Shoot, or End Phase.
- If your side does not control the ball, the turn ends immediately.
Possession
- A ball carrier moves the ball with it, keeping the same corner position.
- A teammate touching the ball after moving takes possession.
- Capturing the opposing ball carrier transfers possession to the capturing piece.
Football Actions
Dribble: move the ball to another corner of the carrier's square.
Kick: send the ball to a point within the carrier's range.
Shoot: target one of the six points in the opponent's goal.
Kick Range
| Piece | Maximum |
| Pawn | 1 |
| Knight | 3 |
| King | 5 |
| Queen | 5 |
| Bishop | 6 |
| Rook | 10 |
Distance equals horizontal movement plus vertical movement.
Interceptions
Kicks and shots may pass through friendly pieces. The first opposing piece on the path stops the ball and gains possession.
Shooting and Defense
- The attacker secretly selects one of the six opponent goal points within shooting range.
- If no opposing piece blocks the path, the defender must choose one of their six goal points.
- If the defender's chosen file matches the shot's file, the shot is saved. Otherwise, the attacker scores.
- After a goal, the ball returns to 5E. The first player to score three goals wins.
